You will feel the elevation as it's a big jump from sea-level to 3500 meters, and it will take your body a few days to adjust to this altitude. Pangong Lake (140 kms) from Leh is about 145 kms long and 6-7 kms wide at its broadest. It is a brackish lake. You can see some snow in early June while crossing over through Changla Pass 5320m.

The monasteries mentioned are renowned ones in Ladakh. Khardongla pass is the highest motarable pass of the world ie; 5602 mts. Nubra Valley 130 kms. has got spectacular landscape with some famous monastery. Pangong lake is about 145 Kms. Long 6-7 Kms. Wide at it’s broadest, stretches from the north-east of Ladakh across the border into Tibet. The lake has no outlet so the water has high salt and mineral content. Because of this the lake cannot support aquatic life, hence it is distinctive.

TSOMORIRI, (korzok village) situated at 15,000 fts (4572m) with its dozens or so houses is the only permanent settlement in RUPSHU. Otherwise the region is inhabited only by nomadic Chang-pa herds people.
